The Manufacturing Technologist III will operate machinery including CNC multi-axis machines, lathes, drill presses, grinders, and various additive equipment. Position includes manual and CNC machine setup, CAM programming, part inspection and process controls.
Duties and Responsibilities
Work from drawings, solid models, written and digital instructions to create parts in support of engineering in new product development efforts.
Performs a wide variety of duties to set up and operate CNC machines. Performs diversified and complex operations on one or more machines simultaneously as required.
Document work instructions for processes and generate improvements as needed.
Requires knowledge of various metals, plastics and of measurements used in machining processes to provide technical leadership and assist in training less experienced team members.
Understand operating various machine technologies and can proficiently run multiple machines.
Handles changeovers without assistance, has the ability with a firm understanding of machine controls.
Create multi-axis CNC programs, post-edit CNC programs to fine-tune processes for optimal performance and can read, find errors, and troubleshoot programs.
Familiar with pre and post processing of 3D printed parts.
Able to create and post 3D printing files and post to multiple systems.
Possesses basic math and problem-solving abilities.
Inspect work pieces at beginning of and throughout production run to ensure part meets tolerance requirements.
Tool setup and maintenance.
Demonstrates ability to effectively use all necessary measuring tools to assure conformance to print.
Understands and verifies tolerances for machined surfaces.
Work with engineers to educate them on technology capabilities and machining best practices.
Requirements
High school diploma or its equivalent
Understands the differences of machining metals and plastics
Clear communications, strong organizational skills and self-driven
Completed or attending a machine tool and die or technical degree program or 5-10 years of work experience.
Selection of the appropriate machine tools and fixturing required to produce assigned work.
Familiar with CAM software (Fusion360, Mastercam, HSM Works or GibbsCam)
Familiar with CAD systems such as CREO, Solidworks, Fusion360 or equivalent CAD software
Schedule
Day shift, but will require flexibility at times depending on the business needs
